Kids and Healthy Teeth
Tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood
disease -- five times more common than asthma -- and 51
million school hours are lost each year as a result of
dental-related problems. In order to help fight this problem,
ACS has teamed up with the Medical College of Georgia's
School of Dentistry, the Georgia Dental Society, and the
North Georgia Dental Society to visit children at schools in
cities throughout the State.
Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE:ACS) , a premier
provider of business process outsourcing and information
technology solutions, announced today that its Government
Healthcare Solutions division has been conducting its second
year of free dental screenings for underserved children
throughout Georgia. Most recently, the ACS Dental Initiative
provided free dental screenings on Friday, December 16, 2005,
at the L. P. Miles Elementary School in Atlanta.
Approximately 400 children received education and screenings.
Since the program began in 2004, the ACS Dental Initiative
has helped more than 10,000 children in Atlanta, Savannah,
Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Washington, Thomasville,
Washington, Thomson, Albany, Decatur, and Cordele by
providing free dental screenings, follow-ups and referrals;
dental care packages, complete with toothbrushes, toothpaste,
T-shirts and educational materials, and dental health
educational programs. For many of these children, who are
also given a recommendation report to share with their
parents, the screenings are their first dental check-up.
"As corporate citizens of Georgia, we are concerned
about the health and well-being of our neediest
children," said John Crysler, Managing Director of ACS
Government Healthcare Solutions. "Together with our
partners, we hope to teach these children that practicing
good dental hygiene now will have a profound impact on their
health for years to come."
